The first thing you can do for your child who is dealing with an autoimmune disorder is love them. Let them know you are there for them. Play with them.

Be patient with them. Their bodies are fighting themselves. If they are tired, let them rest, even if they need to rest for a week straight.

Don’t force them to eat full meals. It can be worrisome when they aren’t hungry for two days in a row, but being sick makes them not want to eat. If they need to take medication with food or milk, offer them milk and crackers or toast.

Don’t hold them back, if they want to ride their bike, let them.

Don’t let the worry of them falling down and getting hurt dictate what activities they will do. All kids fall down, all kids get hurt, all kids should be able to just be kids.

Include them on treatment options, it is 100% okay to use bribery when they have to do something painful, like a steroid injection into their joint.

Try the Reset program! It really does help!

Let them be kids. Let them rest. Let them run. They already have enough setbacks, let them live their life.

LOVE THEM.
