Supplements: How To Find The Best Ones: Tips, Research, And Recommendations

Hand with supplements

The supplement aisle can feel like the Wild West — a million bottles all promising to fix everything from brain fog to bad moods.

As a Master Clinical Aromatherapist (and someone who’s tried her fair share of “miracle” capsules), I can tell you — not all supplements are created equal.

So before you spend a small fortune on things you don’t need, let’s talk about how to actually choose the good ones.

How to Choose the Best Supplements for You

Figure Out What You Actually Want

Before you start Googling the “best supplements for energy,” take a second and ask yourself — what are you hoping to feel?
More energy? Better focus? A calmer immune system?

You don’t have to fix everything at once. You’re a human, not a wellness robot.
Start with one or two goals and focus there first.

Ask a Professional (Yes, Really)

I know, I know — it’s tempting to grab whatever your favorite influencer just posted. But before you go all in, talk to a healthcare professional, pharmacist, or certified aromatherapist.

If you don’t have one nearby, check NAHA.org — you can find certified aromatherapists (like me 👋), and most offer free consultations.

You’ll get better, safer advice that’s actually tailored to you.

Read the Label — And Not Just the Buzzwords

If the ingredient list looks like a science experiment, put it back.
You want short, clean ingredient lists with words you can pronounce.

And remember — “organic” doesn’t automatically mean “safe.” There are different levels of quality even in organic products.

The shorter and cleaner the label, the better.

Track What You Take (Your Body Will Thank You)

Here’s the thing — if you start five new supplements at once, you’ll never know which one actually worked.

Start with one new supplement at a time and track how you feel for at least four weeks.
If something feels off, stop taking it, check the ingredients, and talk to your doctor.

Think of it as a little science project with your body as the star subject.

How to Check Supplement Quality

Do a Little Detective Work

Don’t just take the label’s word for it — look up the company.
Do they have actual research to back up their claims? Are they transparent about where their products come from?

If they’re hiding behind vague wording and fancy packaging, that’s your sign to move on.

Look for Third-Party Testing

Reputable companies will proudly display their third-party test results.
If a brand claims to have “nothing to hide” but won’t show you lab data? That’s a red flag waving in neon lights.

Reach out and ask to see their testing results. The good ones are happy to share.

Skip the Bargain Bin

You’re not going to find premium supplements hanging out in the clearance section for 90% off.

When it comes to supplements, you really do get what you pay for.
I’ve tested enough to know there’s only one company I personally recommend for purity and results.

Real Talk: What This All Means

Choosing the right supplements doesn’t have to be overwhelming.
It’s about knowing your goals, checking your sources, and refusing to settle for mystery ingredients.

When you pair high-quality supplements with a clean diet and lifestyle that supports your body, you’ll feel the difference — in your energy, mood, and focus.

Key Takeaways

  • Start with one goal — don’t try to fix everything at once.
  • Read labels carefully and skip mystery ingredients.
  • Only trust companies that provide third-party test results.
  • High quality costs more, but your health is worth it.
